5 Plants that will Add Natural Fragrance to your Home

Have you ever been on a neighborhood walk when you get a delightful whiff from someone’s garden? Or are you tired of relying on manufactured scents to add fragrance to your home? Try using these plants to add natural scents and beautiful decor to your home. From fresh herbs to flowers and foliage, there are so many sweet-smelling plants you can find in your garden, grocery store, or farmer’s market. We’ll tell you what to buy and where to put them in your home for optimal effect! Here are five of our favorite scents; let us know if you have a favorite aromatic plant.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus leaves are known for their unique piercing scent. Its sharp freshness can have both calming and energizing effects on your body. Add some to your bathroom to make your showers even more refreshing, or add some to your office space to increase alertness and help clear your mind to focus. We understand you might not want to plant an entire Eucalyptus tree in your backyard, but luckily, you can find this plant at many grocery stores and flower markets. This plant also dries incredibly well and can make beautiful minimalist decorations that will add a natural touch to your home.

Lemon Balm

Lemon balm is a fast grower and can often overtake your garden, this sometimes makes it a frustrating plant. Luckily it has many alternative uses that give you a reason to harvest. From tummy soothing teas to natural bug sprays, there are so many things this plant can do!

But you can also keep it simple by taking advantage of its fragrance. This will probably come as no surprise, but lemon balm has a fresh lemon scent. Dry your lemon balm and hang it in your kitchen or pantry for a burst of citrus that will make your space smell clean and crisp!

Lavender

Lavender is a classic go-to scent for many. In fact, it’s highly likely you have a lavender-scented item in your house right now. Lavender is known for its calming properties, which makes it a desirable scent. Many have lavender growing in their gardens, as it’s a fairly easy plant to grow, and our friendly pollinators love this plant too. While you could easily find a lavender-scented candle, fresh lavender is easy to find and smells beautiful. This plant will continue to smell long after it’s been dried, so grab a bundle! Put a vase of lavender on your nightstand or office desk to add some soothing aromatherapy to your space as you fall asleep or get in the zone.

Jasmine

This aromatic plant is low-maintenance, making it a lovely addition to your garden. Not all varieties of jasmine have a scent, but you can count on varieties such as the common jasmine to steal the show. This plant grows better outdoors, so add it to your front walkway for a breath of sweet jasmine every time you come home or leave the house. Like many of the previously mentioned plants, this scent has a calming effect on most people. There’s no better welcome home than a soothing fragrance to guide you.

Roses

While we all are familiar with the classic rose scent, did you know each rose has a unique fragrance? They can range from fruity to spicy or earthy to sweet. Some popular roses typically bought for their fragrance include Honey Perfume, Mr. Lincoln, The Generous Gardener, Munstead Wood, Lady Emma Hamilton, and Double Delight. Maybe it’s time to take a trip to your local nursery or rose garden and sniff out your favorite. Roses make for gorgeous garden additions or bouquets!
